St. Vincent de Paul Society

The St. Vincent de Paul Society assists members of the local community who are in emergency need or crisis.  This group work hand in hand with other agencies such as LEAVEN, the Red Cross, and Winnebago Department of Human Services.

Involvement:  This group is open to parish adults who are able and willing to work on a person-to-person basis with individuals or families in need of help.  Individuals with vehicles and a driver's license are appreciated but this is not required.

Commitment:  The amount of time depends on the number of clients who are referred to the group.  Time spent assisting clients can very from 5 to 10 hours a month.  Meetings are also held.

St. Vincent de Paul Society is a world-wide lay organization founded in Paris in 1833 by Fredric Ozanam. The Society offers tangible aid to those in need, plus spiritual services through person-to-person contact and prayer. There are eighteen conferences in various area parishes which serve the needy in their local neighborhoods. Monies for outreach come from the proceeds of the St. Vincent de Paul Store and donations. SVdP is a unique community resource because it provides emergency help to people who fall through the cracks. Some of the services offered include: Food (pantries referral), Shelter (vouchers for rent), Clothing & Household items (Vouchers for SVdP store), Emergency services (utilities, medical assistance, transportation vouchers) and referrals to LEAVEN, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, or government programs. Call the Helpline (729-4571) if you are in need of help.
